Maserati has released an extensively detailed product plan in a shock announcement, promising a host of new models with electrified powertrains.

It was almost five years ago when Maserati introduced the stunning Alfieri 2+2 concept (pictured at the end) at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. Based on the GranTurismo MC Stradale but with a much shorter wheelbase, the sports coupe had a naturally aspirated 4.7-liter V8 engine with 460 horsepower and 383 pound-feet (520 Newton-meters) on tap. So the first new model arrives will be the Ghibli saloon which has been significantly updated and will be unveiled next year. This will include the brand's first hybrid generating set, expected to be a new gasoline-electric system that offers a fully usable electric range and very low CO2 figures. The BMW 5 Series competitor will also include Level 2 self-driving capabilities, as Maserati intends to advance to Level 3 features in the near future.

Confirmed yet again to get a road-going version in June 2018 when Maserati presented its hugely promising 2018 – 2022 product roadmap, we now learn the Alfieri will morph into a car you’ll actually be able to buy sometime next year.
In 2021, a new SUV will be launched to sit below the Levante. Said to play a "leading role for the brand thanks to its innovative technologies", it requires an investment of around €800 million (£708m) for the construction of a new production line that will open next spring. The first pre-series cars will emerge early in 2021. A convertible version of the Alfieri will arrive that year, too.
