Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes it would be a mistake for the FA to punish Bernardo Silva for posting a tweet about his teammate Benjamin Mendy, comparing him to a caricature.
Silva posted a Twitter tweet on Sunday comparing Mende to a cartoon character used as a slogan for a beloved kind of chocolate-coated dessert in Spain and Portugal and then deleted it an hour later.

The 25-year-old Portuguese then posted another tweet saying: "Even friends can't joke with them these days."

Some media reports said the FA had asked Premier Bremerlig for an explanation.

"If they want to do that and ask Bernardo, it's open to talk," Guardiola told reporters after City's 3-0 win over second division Preston North End in the League Cup on Tuesday.

Guardiola spoke more extensively and confirmed that Mindy had not met the tweet badly.
"Bernardo is one of the most friendly people I've ever met," said Guardiola. "He speaks four or five languages and that's the best way to show how open he is."

Silva and Mindy also played together in Monaco before joining City.
